Guess Who’s Turning 99!
Thursday, March 12th, 2026 is Legion Memorial Library’s 99th Birthday. Stop in and say hello to the staff. While you’re there, see what they have to offer. Check out a book or a movie, order a book to read from another library, ask about audio books, get a library card if you don’t already have one, look at the books for sale, donate food to the BRICK food pantry, use a computer, have a cup of coffee, ask about the mobile app, check out the outdoor space called the Friends Place, should I go on? The library has a lot going on, don’t be shy, CHECK IT OUT!
Winter or Spring?
Groundhog Day was February 2nd. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow that day predicting six more weeks of winter. Does that mean our winter will be over in 6 weeks on March 16th? Maybe it will end on the first day of spring on March 20th. Or, maybe we’ll still have ice on the lakes for the opening of fishing weekend in May. We still have plenty of snow cover even after yesterday’s warmer temperatures in the 40’s. The snow melt stopped with the below zero temperatures last night. Will spring ever come?

Do you have plans for Sunday, February 22? If ice fishing or snowshoeing are of interest to you, plan on having some fun at Lake Galilee at the Mellen Rod and Gun Club Fishing Contest and at Copper Falls for the Guided Snowshoe Hike – Winter Tree and Shrub ID.
Ice Fishing Contest
Looking for something to do this weekend? Plan to attend the Mellen Rod and Gun Club Fishing Contest on Sunday, February 23rd between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and join in on the fun! Food and drink available for purchase. Buy a raffle ticket. Try your hand at ice fishing. Maybe you’ll win something! This event is a fundraiser for the Mellen Rod & Gun Club.
Lenten Breakfasts
The Holy Rosary Catholic Church along with the Congregational UCC will once again host seven Lenten Breakfasts on Wednesday mornings this year starting at 9:00 am on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and ending on Wednesday, April 1. There will be a delicious breakfast waiting for you at each site and an inspirational speaker will give a brief talk following the breakfast. Each event will last about one hour. All are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!

Annual Ice Fishing Contest is Looking for Ticket Sellers!
The Mellen Rod & Gun Club is looking for girls/boys (no age limit) to sell tickets for the Annual Ice Fishing Contest to be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Lake Galilee. All contestants will receive 10% of their sales.
The person that sells the most tickets will receive 10% of their sales, a $ 50.00 gift certificate to any Mellen business of their choice, and will be crowned Ms./Mr. Four Seasons. Anyone interested please call Tanya Haderly at 1-715- 292-3030.
Mellen’s New Laundromat – Ribbon Cutting
On January 10th, the Mellen Area Chamber of Commerce along with owner Robert Longfield held a ribbon cutting at his laundromat located at the Mellen Motel. The laundromat is open daily from 9AM to 9PM. Stop in and check it out! This facility is a well needed addition to Mellen. Welcome and best of luck Robert.
