Groundhog Day was February 2nd. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow that day predicting six more weeks of winter. Does that mean our winter will be over in 6 weeks on March 16th? Maybe it will end on the first day of spring on March 20th. Or, maybe we'll still have ice on the lakes for the opening of fishing weekend in May. We still have plenty of snow cover even after yesterday's warmer temperatures in the 40's. The snow melt stopped with the below zero temperatures last night. Will spring ever come?
Welcome to Mellen, Wisconsin
Here the Devil's Creek meets the Bad River. State Highway 13 meets Highway 77. Sound a little foreboding? Really a nicer place would be hard to find. Nestled at these crossroads is the gateway to Northern Wisconsin's pristine paradise. The bustling City of Mellen is situated perfectly to explore and enjoy four season outdoor adventures. Flanked by Mount Whittlesey on the East and Ren Vought's Bluff on the West, and surrounded by the Chequamegon National Forest, Mellen and environs are a natural beauty experience waiting to happen. One of the gems of the State Park System, Copper Falls State Park, is just 5 minutes from Mellen, fast becoming one of the most popular parks in the state. A lot of good things are happening there. Go camping, rent a cabin, hike the North Country Trail. Mellen is a designated Trail City. The City of Mellen is both ATV and snowmobile friendly. Cross country ski or snowshoe this beautiful Penokee Range. Fishing or hunting can be another way to enjoy the surroundings. There are legendary sized whitetails in them thar hills.
