The Mellen Area Chamber of Commerce holds an annual Roly Poly Contest in April. Roly Polys are a unique food found in Mellen and the surrounding area. They are stuffed cabbage rolls cooked in sauerkraut (not typically in tomato sauce). Local area cooks enter the contest by making their own recipe of Roly Polys. Cooks must enter the contest with a minimum of 25 Roly Polys. Their Roly Polys are blindly judged by a panel of judges. Cash prizes are awarded to the top 3 scorers. The Roly Polys are served for dinner to the attendees. Judging starts at 3 p.m.- Dinner is 4-6 p.m.
Events at the Contest:
Roly Poly Contest – for the cooks/entrants (Cash prizes)
Roly Poly Dinner – Dinner tickets are on sale at the event.
Grand Prize Drawing* – Dinner ticket enters you in the drawing. Drawing held after dinner. Must be present to win.
*Stop in Northern State Bank to see the GRAND PRIZE on display!
Chinese Auction – raffle items are donated by local businesses. Prize drawings held after dinner.
