Love to fish, canoe, kayak, boat, swim, camp? You’ve come to the right place! We have many lakes in the surrounding area for you to check out. Fishing licenses can be purchased in Mellen at Northland Foods/Hardware Hank. Both Northland Foods and Midland Services sell fishing bait! (Nightcrawlers, worms, leeches, and wax worms)

Beaver Lake Recreation Area

  • 12.7 miles – From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG 8 miles to FR 187 (Mineral Lake Rd.). Turn right (north) on FR 187 and follow it 3 miles to the T intersection with FR 198 (Pine Stump Corner). Continue straight (west) on FR 198 for 1.7 miles and turn right at the campground sign.

Caroline Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (Access at SW End of Lake)

  • 10 Miles – From Mellen Travel east on State Hwy 77 for about 4 miles to Lake Drive. Take a right and follow Lake Drive for 2.5 miles to Lake Caroline Road. Take a left and travel 2 miles to an unmarked road on the right. After one mile, this road dead ends at the mouth of the Bad River and at the Caroline Lake boat landing. Park at the boat landing area.

English Lake

  • 6.6 miles – From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG 6.3 miles to Boat Landing Rd. Turn right (north) on Boat Landing Rd and drive .2 miles. Turn right to stay on Boat Landing Rd for 479 feet to arrive at 67298 Boat Landing Rd, English Lake.

East Twin Recreation Area

Gordon Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramp – vehicle trailer parking is at the nearby Town Hall.)
  • Fishing, picnicking, swimming
  • Northern Pike, Walleye, Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass
  • 13 miles – From Mellen drive south on State Highway 13 for 11 miles. Turn left onto Gordon Lake Rd for 0.4 miles then turn right to stay on Gordon Lake Rd 246 feet then turn right at the 1st cross street to stay on Gordon Lake Rd for .4 miles. Arrive at the Gordon Lake boat landing.

Lake Eureka

  • 7.6 miles – From Mellen, head east on E Tyler Ave toward Riverview Ln 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Olson Rd 0.4 miles. Turn left onto WI-77 / State Highway 77 3.8 miles. Turn right onto Lake Dr / County Hwy-MM 2.8 miles. Turn left onto Eureka Lake Rd 0.1 miles. Turn left onto Guerin Rd 0.2 miles. Turn left. Arrive at Guerin Rd. The last intersection before your destination is Koski Rd. Arrive at Eureka Lake.

Lake Galilee

Lake Three (Campground was closed by the Forest Service)

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramp)

  • 12 miles – 34412 Mineral Lake Rd. (FR 198) From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG 8.0 miles to Forest Road 187 and turn right and drive 3.1 miles to Mineral Lake Road and drive .7 miles.

Long Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramp at east side of the lake)

  • 10.8 Miles – From Mellen drive south on Highway 13 for 3.0 miles then turn left onto W Lake Drive 1.4 miles. Turn right onto Long Lake Road for 2.3 miles. Turn right onto Long Lake Boat Landing Road 1.0 miles. Turn right to stay on Long Lake Boat Landing Road (Unpaved Road) 1.7 miles. Turn left to stay on Long Lake Boat Landing Road 1.0 miles. Turn left onto Long Lake Road 0.4 miles. Arrive at boat landing on Long Lake.

Loon Lake (part of Copper Falls State Park)

  • 2 miles – 36503 Loon Lake Dr. From Mellen drive north on Highway 169 1.8 miles to Copper Falls Road and turn left and drive .5 miles.

Meder Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramp – no turnaround)
  • Fishing
  • Northern Pike, Walleye, Panfish, Largemouth Bass
  • 6 Miles – From Mellen drive south on Highway 13 to W Lake Drive and turn left and drive to Long Lake Road and turn to Hien Road/Meder Lake Boat Landing Road.

Mineral Lake Recreation Area (Campground was closed by the Forest Service)

Namekagon Lake Recreation Area

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramps – there is a boat landing and fishing pier at the day-use area.)

  • 34 miles – From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG to intersection with Highway M in Clam Lake. Turn right on Highway M. In 8.8 miles turn right (north) on Highway D. Drive 5.5 miles to FR 209, turn left (west) at the campground sign and drive 0.3 miles to the campground entrance.

Potter Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (ramp – access near County Hwy GG)
  • Fishing
  • Panfish, Musky, Largemouth Bass
  • 7.4 miles – From Mellen drive west on County Highway GG 7.4 miles to Potter Lake.

Spillerberg Lake

  • Public boat landing: Yes (Ramp – there is an adjacent picnic area with tables and grills)
  • Fishing, picnicking
  • Musky, Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Walleye
  • 10.6 miles – From Mellen drive south on State Highway 13 for 7.5 miles. Take a sharp right onto Thole Rd for 0.3 miles then turn left onto Linden Rd for 0.3 miles then turn right onto Forest Rd 181 for 1.5 miles. Turn left onto Boat Landing Rd 246 ft to arrive at Spillerberg Lake Boat Landing.

Lake Superior

  • Mellen is about a half hour drive south of Lake Superior where you can find places to stop and check out the big lake.
  • 24 miles – From Mellen drive north on Highway 13 to Ashland, WI where you will find various parks along the shore of Lake Superior.
