Calendar of Events:

This year our opening May work event is comprised of 2 parts. first is called the heritage chapter Volunteer and Intern Week. It begins Tuesday May 14. This work week is designed to coincide with Northland College's May-term and we have four interns signed up so far to work with Heritage Volunteers.
This event is designed to overlap with our regular work weekend on Saturday May 18. Heritage Chapter Members and Volunteers can sign up to work with the intern crew for all or part of the work week.
The second event is our normal work weekend of May 18 and 19.This event will focus on trail construction.
Where to stay?We have camping available Tuesday through Sunday in Upson Falls Campground. Please check the Meetup site for details.
If you don't like camping, you can check out the new Cozy Valley Lodge on Facebook or call Kendra Thewis at 414-758-8823.
Where and When to Meet: Please refer to the Meetup site for meeting spots for each event.
What to Bring:Please be sure to bring your own water(2 liters), trail lunch, snacks and bug repellent.
Meals:The chapter provides dinner on Saturday.

Have you ever hiked on a National Scenic Trail? Here is your chance. Join members of the Chequamegon Chapter of the North Country Trail Association as they lead a variety of hikes in 2019.
1. Saturday may 18, 2019, 7:30AM-11:00AM: Long Mile lookout Birding Hike
Meet the hike leader, Ted May, at the Hwy D parking area(5 miles south of Grand View). We will hike past East Davis Lake on the way to the Long Mile Lookout where there is an abandoned fire tower(not a climbing observation tower). There has been some recent selective logging, which may impact birding in interesting ways.
It is an 2.8 mile hike one way, so 5.6 miles roundtrip. Bring your binoculars-we will look for birds along the way.
2.Saturday June 1, 2019,9:00AM to about 2:00PM: Rainbow Lake Wilderness through Hike
Meet hike leader, Mel Baughman, retired forestry professor, at NCT parking area at the south boundary of Rainbow Lake Wilderness on Forest Road 392(Reynard Lake Road).
From there we will car pool to the northern boundary of Rainbow Lake Wilderness on Forest Road 228(North Delta Road). During a 3 1/2 hour hike(6.4 miles) to the south boundary, Mel will periodically talk about principles of forest ecology and trail design.
Some sections of this route were closed in 2018 due to flooding, but we will hike these sections orre-routes to discuss how to avoid and repair damage.
Be sure to bring lunch, water and mosquito/tick repellent.
3. Saturday july 27, 2010, 9:00AM to NooN Hidden lake Hike
Meet hike leader, Mary Stenberg, at the parking area where the North Country Trail crosses the Delta Drummond Road, approximately 3 miles north of Drummond.
hike east along this scenic section of the trail where you pass 3 small inland lakes-Mirror Esox and Overby.
this will be a 3.6 mile round trip hike.
Participants will have the option of walking 1 way, For only 1.8 miles, and then catch a shuttle back to the parking area, if they choose.
4. Saturday august 24, 2019, 1:00PM-4:00PM: Youth Hike
Meet hike leader, Cheryl Trieschman, at the Lake Three Campground parking area on Mineral Lake Road(FR187) where participants will hike east in search of plants, animals, bugs, and birds.
You never know what you may find in a walk in the woods. Cheryl plans on making this in and out hike a fun learning adventure.

5. Saturday September 28, 2019, 1:00PM-4:00Pm
Meet hike leader Ellie Williams, at the copper Falls state Park Pavillion to start a 3-4 mile hike north along the NCT into the pristineCopper falls State natural Area.
Participants will need a state park sticker. Parking is available at the pavilion parking lot.
come early to help the Chequamegon Chapter celebrate North Country Scenic trail Day and Friends of Copper Falls State Park's Fall Festival.

Cozy Valley Homemakers Mother's Day pie sale is being held at the Northern State Bank on Friday May 10 at 9:00 AM and lasting until the pies are gone.

MYAA wil be holding an open house on Monday, May 13 at the Morse Town Hall from6:00-7:00 PM. The event is a chance for MYAA families to get to gether, meet the coaches, pick up team shirts and game schedules, and sign up for con cession commitments.

Directions from Hurley: Take Hwy 77 west beyond Upson, 3 miles to Casey Sag Road, turn right(North) go 2.75 miles to trailhead. Hike will be 3.5 miles. Visit Gold Mine and Overlook of the Penokees. This will be a 2 way hike.

Looking to give money to Holy Rosary Church in memory of a loved one. Holy Rosary has established a STAINED GLASS MEMORIAL FUND.
No amount is too small or large. However with a donation of $100 or more, a name plaque will be inscribed with the name of your choice.

The t-shirt design contest for the Friends of the library Bellringer Run on July 4, 2019 is open to everyone.
Contest rules are available at the library and Mellen school art room.

The Mellen school will again be collecting Box Tops for the 2018-2019 school year.
Collection sites include Northland Foods, SCCU, Northern State Bank, Dollar General and the school. Your labels become money to help purchase equipment and supplies for the entire Mellen School.

Effective immediately, tires must be removed from all metal brought into Tri-M for recycling.
items such as bikes, lawn mowers, etc., will not be accepted unless the tires are removed.
Tires can be disposed of for a variable fee; rate is determined by tire size.
Tri-M Sanitary/Recycling will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday Jan. 14, 2019 at 6:15 PM in the office/ conference room at the Tri-M building.
